Leaping for Life Fitness

ABOUT US
In February of 2006, Beth opened the doors to a small private studio gym to offer a unique exercise experience to the Spicewood community. Beth understood that starting a fitness program could be a scary thing for some and knew some folks might feel self-conscious about walking through that door the first time. Beth understood that because she's felt the same way...she's been there. With this awareness in mind, Leaping for Life Fitness was designed to enable her clients to feel comfortable, welcome and safe.

THE GYM
Knowing that our clients would enjoy a little beauty and appreciate a gym that wasn't all sweat and metal (though we do have our share of both), attention was given to softening the environment and adding a few aesthetics. From the moment you pull up to Leaping for Life Fitness, the difference is noticeable: gorgeous signs, bright red front doors and oodles of planted flowers and shrubs. Inside, clients are enveloped in privacy, comfort and warmth, inviting them to feel safe throughout their individual exercise experiences. Fresh white walls, pale blue ceilings, bamboo floors, and the lovely and striking art of Roger Chandler (www.artofparadise.com) all contribute to the welcoming environment of Leaping for Life Fitness. Off of our gym is a private room equipped with two Pilates Cadillac Reformers (as far as we know of...the only ones in our area)! And we have been told that our shower and bathroom area is like a mini spa. This is the place!

THE STUDIO
In March of 2009, Leaping for Life Fitness underwent an exciting expansion, (acquiring the space next door to the gym in the same building) adding a new studio where a "mix-it-up" variety of classes are now offered including yoga, and private Pilates. Class sizes are small, allowing instructors to welcome and work with you by name. Instructors go that extra step to learn about client's needs and goals ... because our clients matter! Our highly skilled instructors are trained to modify exercise to adapt to individual needs so clients don't feel intimidated. Off of the studio is a treatment room for massage...quiet and welcoming.

No one is a stranger at Leaping for Life Fitness and our intimate spaces guarantee that you will never be lost in a huge class or a cavernous gym.

We ARE building community through health and fitness!

About Our Staff

Beth Howe, CPT, Certified Rehab Specialist

Beth has been a personal trainer since 2001 and rehabilitation specialist since 2003. In the fall of 2009, Beth attended Cooper Institute for further education. She has trained people from the ages 13 to 85 and is experienced at working with people of all levels: from preparing for events to assisting with recovery from injuries and rehabbing after joint replacement surgery. Beth has spent her life struggling with weight and has developed balanced ways to live without sacrificing pleasure. One of her favorite mottos is: "It's all about balance!" And because she personally loves to exercise, she is great at debunking the concept that exercise is all drudgery and no fun. "Being active is fun! I think one of the things I do best as a trainer is helping people learn how to lead more healthy and balanced lifestyles".

Cathie Darwin

Cathie is Cooper Institute trained-but is so busy supporting others: being a mom and wife, working, teaching cardio classes, and supporting all of us at Leaping for Life-that she hasn't carved out the time to complete her test! She is outstanding at encouraging women who desire weight loss and Cathie understands how hard it is to achieve and maintain weight loss goals. Barbara Serota

My commitment to yoga is seamlessly interwoven with a passion for making art and for the healing arts. All three require intention, heart-guided focus, and the practice of fully inhabiting the present moment. In my mid-twenties it became clear that if I wished to maintain strength for the physically demanding life of a potter, it was necessary to develop a daily yoga practice. Thus, for more than 30 years my practice has grown and morphed with many teachers, workshops and retreats while slowly expanding to include Tai-chi, Chi-gong and meditation instruction. In more recent years I was drawn toward the healing arts and became a licensed massage therapist --- the exquisite science of human anatomy and physiology deepened my understanding of the true purpose of yoga. What I teach is my own practice --- it is a slow, conscious-movement yoga, very strengthening --- and it is created around breathwork, correct posture, and a quieting of the mind so that pure awareness can come forward and a relaxed sense of balance can return. It is a pleasure to carefully describe each asana and safely guide people of all ages and backgrounds into their own conscious movement practice. Namaste. http://www.spicewoodpottery.com/6022.html
