Karate Classes, Pricing, and Fees

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Class level for children ages 7 and up, Teens, and Adults.

Karate training is universally acknowledged to strengthen the body, develop the mind and nurture the spirit. Students will develop and improve their flexibility, balance, coordination, endurance and overall fitness. Our classes also emphasize on instilling social and moral values in students of all ages, as well as developing character, discipline, strong personalities and self-confidence.

On a technical level, students will begin by learning and mastering the standardized "Basics" of the modern arts of Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate. "Basics" will cover an entire array of postures and stances, blocks and deflecting techniques, punches, kicks and the various strikes associated with such arts, establishing the foundation needed for proper self-defense training. As they advance, students will get introduced to a unique, classical and authentic old-style Okinawan Karate, whose principles and training methods are ultimately geared towards developing functional spontaneity against habitual acts of physical violence.

Our program offers belt advancement and supports participation in tournaments for those who wish.

We welcome students from other martial-art styles under our PLR policies (Previous Learning Recognition).

We have a very well established curriculum, proven and refined over decades of dedicated instruction. It is conveyed in a building-block fashion, and based on sound pedagogical principles. Our outcomes are well defined, and our training methods and methodologies are geared towards those outcomes, and designed accordingly.

For a detailed look at our style curriculum, and for a more in-depth insights on our training goals and methods, we invite you to visit our karate website at www.austin-karate.com.

FURTHER NOTES:
Please note that offering one karate class per week for children and youths is not deemed adequate, as students will have a tendency to forget what is learned. Offering three classes (or more) per week certainly has its advantages. However, school children may be involved in several other sports and extra-curricular activities, where not only schedules can quickly become hectic and overwhelming for both kids and parents, but also the amount of energy and focus needed. Based on my lifetime experience as a student of martial arts, and based on my experience in teaching students of all ages over the years, I recommend two karate classes per week for an after-school program, which will promote proper karate learning while maintaining a good balance with other aspects of students' lives. Based on the same experience, I do not recommend long breaks from training, such as the three-month summer break. For this reason our school is willing classes throughout the calendar year, not only the academic school year. This can be in the form of continuing regular classes, specialized summer camps, or a combination of both.
